Lighting plays a critical role in the overall ambiance of a space—and in a residential community, illumination is vital to the cultivation of senior health and wellness.
With this in mind, Amenta Emma Architects were asked to design a project for memory care residents in Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to creating space for as many residential units as possible, they needed to design multi-use areas that would promote the comfort and well-being for those suffering from dementia and other issues of memory.
“The interior finishes and lights are designed to provide a familiar, warm sense of home while compensating for deteriorating eyesight in older adults with higher levels of light and contrasting floor-to-wall surfaces,” writes Amenta Emma on their website: www.amentaemma.com/single-post/2018/12/14/A-Bigger-Small-House-for-Memory-Care
To meet the challenge of creating this calm, soothing environment, Illuminate New England chose Tempo’s C3R products to unify the lighting elements of the project with the memory care residence’s unique architectural design specifications.
“We selected Tempo’s products to give the appearance of a floating ceiling. By sitting Tempo’s C3R products in the pocket of the cove, we were able to create the depth required for a bright, yet tranquil halo effect,” states Adam Retting, Principal of Illuminate New England.
As a result of these efforts in holistic design mixed with innovative lighting fixtures, Avery Heights Memory Care now offers a welcoming environment to the benefit of its residents.
